Course Title: Oxygen Administration
Course length 2 Hours
Maximum number to attend, 20 – 60, up to 20 delegates per course
This course is aimed at all staff working within Health and Social Care who are responsible for the day-to-day care of an individual who is prescribed oxygen.
Oxygen administration training ensures that staff have the correct theoretic knowledge and practical skills to provide optimum care and support for individuals in their care.

Understanding of relevant legislation and codes of practice
What is a Medical Gas
Familiarity with the composition and identification of various gases
Hazards of Medical Gases
Understanding of the dangers involved in working with medical gases
Health and Safety
Familiarity with safe operating practices
Clinical use of Medical Gases
Understanding of the different types of medical gas supplies, the associated equipment and safe working practices
Guidance on how to handle, move and where relevant, store medical gas cylinders safely
How to identify faulty and incident cylinders and take appropriate action
How to prepare a medical gas cylinder for use and its connection to equipment
Risk Assessments and Practical Session
Be aware of risk assessments with regard to storage and use of oxygen
Practical session includes face mask and nasal cannula.
At the end of the training session, there is a written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.
