Course Title: Fire Evacuation

Course length 2 hours

Maximum number to attend 20 – 60, up to 20 delegates per course

This course is aimed at all staff who may need to be involved in the evacuation of people with limited mobility and would need to be supported through the use of evacuation aids. The course will include a practical session where delegates will use the evacuation aids to move a training mannequin.   

At the end of the training session, there is a short-written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.

Learning Outcome & Assessment Criteria

Fire Policy and Procedure

Be aware of the importance of knowing the organisations fire policy and emergency procedure.

Explain the process to follow upon the activation of the fire alarms

Understand the fire emergency evacuation plan that is in place

List roles and responsibilities for all involved in the evacuation procedure including any relevant legal responsibilities 

Identify escape routes if evacuation is necessary

PEEPS

Explain what a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan is and what information should be in one

Identify where the service users PEEPS are located in the workplace

Understand the importance of knowing what is contained within a PEEP

Explain where to access this information in the event of an emergency evacuation 

Safe use of an AlbacMat and Evac Chair to successfully and safely evacuate people in the event of an emergency

Explain what an AlbacMat and Evac Chair are to be used for

Be aware of all relevant safety information including but not limited to safe working loads and recommend number of handlers

Understand how to store equipment in line with agreed ways of working

Explain how equipment should be cleaned after it has been used

Demonstrate practically the safe and effective use of an AlbacMat and Evac Chair by evacuating a training mannequin

Other Evacuation Equipment

Identify a range of other equipment that may be needed to evacuate service users including:

Evacuation sheets

Ski Pads

Larger (Bariatric) evacuation equipment

Moving and Assisting, Handling and Lifting Techniques

Explain what the three main principles of biomechanics are

Demonstrate how to apply these principles to ensure the safe use of evacuation equipment to prevent the risk of injury to all involved
