Course Title:  Pain Assessment and Management  

Course length 3 to 6 hours 

Maximum number to attend 12 

The course can be delivered as a 3 or 6 hour course.  The 3 hour course provides a basic overview whereas the full 6 hours provides more in depth knowledge for up to 12 delegates.

This course is aimed at all staff working within Health and Social Care.

The course aims to raise awareness and increase knowledge around the anatomy and physiology of pain, identify differences between acute and chronic pain and discuss pain management.

Understand nociceptive pain

Understand neuropathic pain

Understand acute pain

Understand chronic pain

Methods of Pain Assessment

Identify methods of pain assessment:

Acute pain assessment

Assessment of pre-existing pain

Chronic pain assessment

Look at different pain assessment tools

Pain Management

Discuss methods of pain management – WHO analgesic ladder

Pharmacological interventions

Non-pharmacological interventions

Psychological interventions

At the end of the training session, there is a written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.
