Course Title: Makaton Level 1

This course is recommended for anyone starting their Makaton journey. Completion of level 1 is required before Level 2 can be undertaken

The Makaton Level 1 workshop provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. 

The complete Makaton Level 1 is made up of 2 x 3hr modules which can be either taught as a full day or in 2 separate modules.

The course is delivered by an experienced practitioner and registered Makaton Regional Tutor who has a wealth of experience in supporting Makaton users and practitioners in health and social care settings as well as domestic settings with family members.  

Learning Outcome & Assessment Criteria

Makaton Level 1

Learning the signs and symbols for stages 1-2 part of the additional core vocabulary. Assessment is ongoing as delegate’s signing skills develop.

An introduction to the Makaton language programme.

Hints and tips for effective signing

How to start using Makaton for everyday situations at home or work.

How Makaton fits in with other signed systems.
