This course is aimed at all staff working within Health and Social Care. The course will increase knowledge and raise awareness of spinal injuries, including defining terminology and understanding the different challenge associated with spinal injuries.

Basic anatomy and physiology of the spine
Overview of spinal injuries including spinal shock
Understand what is meant by the terms tetraplegia and paraplegia
Understand the differences between complete and incomplete spinal injury
Autonomic Dysreflexia
What is Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD)
The mechanisms of AD
What are the signs of symptoms of AD
What are the causes and triggers of AD
Possible complications for the individuals with AD
Treatment for AD
At the end of the training session, there is a written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.
