Course Title: Safer Recruitment
Course length 2 Hours
Maximum number to attend, 20 – 60, up to 20 delegates per course
This course is aimed at all staff involved with the recruitment process.
At the end of the training session, there is a short-written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.

Understand why having strict safer recruitment practices in place is so important in regard to safeguarding
Review current recruitment processes and identify areas for improvement
Explain why safer recruitment is important within their area of work
Use case studies to identify previous failings in recruitment where adults at risk or children are supported
Know how to put together an effective application pack, including job description and safeguarding statement
List what documents should be contained in an application pack
Explain why safeguarding statements should be included in the application pack
Demonstrate how to create an effective job advert that focuses on safety.
Know what to look for when shortlisting candidates
Explain what factors are important when considering candidate applications
Describe how to interpret personal statements and signs of concern
Explain how to obtain references effectively
Explain the actions to take when someone has to disclose information about previous criminal convictions
Know how to conduct an interview
Describe how to prepare for an interview
Understand how to complete pre-appointment checks, including DBS checks before a candidate can start work.
List the checks necessary to determine suitability of employment after an interview
Understand the importance of thorough induction and training processes
List the components of an effective induction process
Explain why monitoring and supervision is important in the stages of employment
Identify ways to maintain a safe workplace that promotes a zero tolerance to abuse.
