Course Title: Venepuncture (Theory Only)
Course length – 3 hours

This course is aimed at all staff working in the Health and Social Care Sector who are required to take blood samples for analysis.
Please note this course is theory only and practical on a manikin arm.

· What is venepuncture? · Common reasons blood samples are taken · Legal and professional accountability · NMC Code of Conduct · Consent · Health and Safety · Differences between arteries and veins · Common sites for taking blood · Preparation and technique · Visual inspection of veins · Sites to be avoided · Labelling requirements · Preventing complications · Use of tourniquet · Assessment and Procedure · Sharps / safe disposal · Complications · Needle stick injury · Documentation |
Practical Session |
· Demonstration and practical using a manikin arm. · Completion of short assessment. |
