Overview of Dementia
Down’s Syndrome and Dementia
Understand the connection between Downs Syndrome and Dementia.
Other conditions which could be mistaken for Dementia
Understand other possible reasons/causes for an individuals decline in abilities.
Signs and Symptoms which may indicate dementia
Discuss possible signs and symptoms which may indicate the onset of dementia.
Diagnosing dementia
Discuss processes involved with diagnosing dementia, including baseline assessments.
Support
Manage the physical and emotional wellbeing of individuals with a dementia diagnosis and understand the impact of this on their family. carers and their friends (including co-residents who also have a learning disability)
Recognise the impact and be able to manage the changes in an individuals behaviour.
Have insight into practical strategies that can support individuals diagnosed with dementia and ensure a balance is reached between maintaining skills and addressing increasing support-needs.
Understand the impact of the physical environment upon the individual.
Identify members of the multi-disciplinary team who will be available to provide guidance and support.
