Course Title:  Injections

Course length 3 hours

This awareness course is designed for Registered Nurses who will be administering injections, this includes subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections.  

The course does include administration of medication via a syringe driver, although this does not provide full training on use of syringe drivers.  Please see separate course aims for syringe drivers.

What you need to know about the medicine

Checks for medication

How to draw up medication

How to mix medication

Subcutaneous Injections

Identify common sites for subcutaneous injections

Procedure for administering subcutaneous injections 

Intramuscular Injections

Identify common sites for intramuscular injections

Procedure for administering intramuscular injections 

Intravenous Injections

Discuss the purpose of giving IV medication

Precautions when administering IV medication

Complications of administering IV medication 

Syringe Drivers

Explain common indications and medications administered via syringe drivers

Problems associated with syringe drivers

At the end of the training session, there is a written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.
