This course is aimed at all staff in health and social care. 

At the end of the training session, there is a short-written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.

Learning Outcome and Assessment Criteria

Introduction - Dementia

  • Define dementia

  • Identify the different forms of dementia:

  • Describe common causes of dementia

  • Identify signs and symptoms of dementia

Causes of Dementia

  • Describe the difference between dementia, depression and delirium 

  • Identify signs and symptoms of dementia 

  • Identify common causes of dementia (Alzheimers disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and fronto-temporal dementia) 

  • List risk factors and comorbidities for dementia 

  • Explain the importance of early diagnosis 

Person Centred Care Approaches

  • Describe what good person-centred dementia care is 

  • Explain how to use evidence-based approaches to person-centred care 

  • Identify a range of useful organisations and assistive technology for people with dementia 

  • Identify relevant national policies and drivers in dementia care
